Looking to go on a cruise this Spring break? We compiled a list of the top 5 cruise ships to go on for this spring break and summer.

1. Symphony of the Seas

Symphony of the Seas was made on June 9, 2017 in Saint-Nazaire, France by Chantiers de l’Atlantique. Symphony of the Seas is measured at 361 meters or 1,184 feet making it the biggest cruise ship in the world. It weighs 228,081 gross tons and can hold 6,680 passengers and 2,200 crew members.

Symphony of the Seas offers many fun activities on the ship such as the biggest slide at sea (The Ultimate Abyss) and three water slides all being named The Perfect Storm. There are 19 pools including 9 hot tubs. At the back of the ship, there are two surfing simulators called Flow Riders. There is an aqua theater at the very back of the ship where they perform water stunts and tightrope walks. Heading to the front of the ship, they have an adult only solarium where you can eat at the Solarium Bistro and hang out in hot tubs and pools. Below deck, there is a theater that can transform to an ice rink and a laser tag arena. 

The Symphony of the Seas consists of 7 neighborhoods. The first neighborhood is the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk is located in the back of the ship. It includes a hand-made carousel and has restaurants such as Sugar Beach and Playmakers. The Boardwalk leads to the aqua theater and the end of the Ultimate Abyss.

The second neighborhood is the Royal Promenade. This is located on deck 5 and 6. This passageway, is flanked by bars, restaurants, shopping and entertainment venues.

The third neighborhood is the Pools and Sports Zone. Here there is basketball court, two surf simulators, mini golf, and many pools for both kids and adults.

The fourth neighborhood is The Vitality of the Sea. This is an area that contains a spa and a gym.

The fifth neighborhood is the Entertainment Place. Here there is trivia, ice skating, a carousel, Ping-Pong, poker, bingo, dancing and the Puzzle Break Center.

The sixth neighborhood is the Royal Promenade. This contains many restaurants and souvenir shops. There is also cars and paintings through the walkway.

The seventh and last neighborhood is the youth zone. Here you can drop off your kids aged 3-17 to play fun games and hang out with the royal Caribbean staff. 

All in all, we chose Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas because of its age friendly activities and its itinerary. 

2. Norwegian Encore 

The Norwegian Encore was made in November of 2019 in Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. The Encore weighs 168,000 tons and spans 336 meters or 1,094 feet long. The Encore can hold 4,000 passengers.

The Norwegian Encore is known for its fun activities for kids. It includes a go-cart course, a laser tag arena, and a VR maze. The Encore has two water parks including 2 multi-story slides. The Encore has a total of 29 on board dining options (9 complimentary), with 22 lounges and bars, 3 swimming pools, 5 water slides, 9 hot tubs and 16 elevators.

The Encore has a sports complex that includes a combined sports court (basketball/volleyball), Ropes Course, Zip Line, Racetrack (Ferrari TM go-karts), Rock Climbing Wall, Mini-Golf Course, and a state-of-the-art laser tag facility. Norwegian’s youth programs offer a complimentary kids‘ club for children ages 6 months to 12 years, with Splash Academy specifically for the 3 to 12-year-old set.

The overall youth program offers a parentchild play space and activities for the littlest cruisers and drop-off activities for kids starting at 3 years old. The Norwegian encore has a Social Comedy & Night Club on Deck 6. The ship’s observation deck is one of many places to get your awesome ocean views while aboard the ship. There is a theater and an award-winning casino. 

To conclude, The Norwegian Encore placed second for its fun activities for kids and the food presented on board. 

3. The Celebrity Edge 

The Celebrity Edge was made on January 23, 2018 in Saint-Nazaire, France by Chantiers de l’Atlantique. This is the same builder who made Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas. The Edge is 130,818 gross tons and is 1.004 feet long. The ship can hold just over 3,000 passengers.

The Celebrity Edge is known for the bar that is lifted and dropped slowly over the ocean on the side of the ship. Anyone can attend to this bar once the people on it before are off. Celebrity cruises are mainly for adults looking for a 7-day getaway.

There are many lounges and bars to enjoy at any time of the day. The Celebrity Edge was voted as the best overall cruise ship in 2019. The ship is also known for it’s modern looks and relaxing pools. It contains a 23 meter pool making it one of the largest pools at sea. The Edge has a gym, theater, and a free buffet for everyone. The Edge also includes a top of the line spa. It costs 25 dollars for one day, 50 dollars for 3 days, and 75 dollars for 6 days. Here, you have an amazing view of the ocean.

All in all, the Celebrity Edge may not be as kid friendly as other ships, but it makes up for it with it’s luxury and modern activities for adults.

4. The Disney Magic

The Disney Magic was made in Marghera, Italy. Its weighs 83,000 gross tons and can hold 3,650 passengers and crew members. It is 964 feet long and 171 feet tall. It was made in the July of 1998.

Although the Disney Magic is the oldest on the list, it is still the best ship for kids aged 3-12. It includes characters from all of their shows including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Elsa, Cinderella, Tinker Bell, and much more.

There is also a drop slide from the top of the ship spanning 2 floors. There is a theater that includes Disney acts and much more. This allows the kids to enjoy the ship in many different ways.

Also, Disney has a private island called Castaway Cay. Here, you can go to a beach and hang out with your favorite Disney characters. There is also a water park.

Back to the ship, there is 3 different pools and a kids’ play area. The theater also shows Disney movies. The Disney ships are also known for their restaurants. Their restaurants include Animators Palate, Palo’s, Pinocchio’s Pizzeria, and Eye Scream.

To conclude, the Disney Magic is the perfect getaway for kids looking for fun activities and their favorite Disney characters.

5. The Carnival Vista

The Carnival Vista was made at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Italy. It weighs 133,500 gross tons. Its 1,055 feet long and can hold 4,977 passengers at max capacity. It was made in July of 2016.

Carnival Cruises are know as “The Fun Ships”. On the Vista, you can go on 1 of 3 water slides, race a friend on an sky ride at the top of the ship, or eat at Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, or 7 other restaurants.

There is also fun for the family, they host a family feud at the bottom of the ship where you face off to answer more questions than the other family. You can also watch a movie at an IMAX theater.

The Vista is known for it’s fun activities when at sea. The days at sea are known as “fun days”. The Vista has a futuristic daycare theme in which really drags the kids’ interests. You can play games and with toys.

It has 3 pools and 9 hot tubs. One of these pools is located on the back of the ship. Only people who bought the Havana package are allowed here. There is an amazing view from not only the pool but the long wooden deck that spans as far as the rooms go.

Final Thoughts

To conclude, the Carnival Vista is arguably the best ship for people looking for fun. Also, they have won many awards for their amazing food. There is many fun activities for people spanning all ages.

Ultimately, picking the right cruise ship depends on what your looking for in a cruise. Some are for kids seeking fun and some are for adults looking to relax.
